| Job Description: | Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia is interested in utilizing
the skills of a legal intern to research laws and legal practices in other
states that are viewed as successful in reducing risks to Child Advocacy
Centers as well as the trauma (during prosecution) to children of alleged
sexual abuse and in fostering better prosecution of alleged perpetrators.
Research will also include CAC partnerships with educational institutions. Intern will research best practices models used in the development of successful CACs (e.g. Community Originating, District Attorney-Originating versus Law Enforcement Originating.) Intern will explore, develop, and document strategies for developing additional CACs and /or expanding services of existing CACs and all legal implications. |

| Job Description: | Interns will directly assist child advocate attorneys in preparing
for all stages of litigation and follow-up on behalf of children who are
alleged to be abused and /or neglected. Interns will be involved with new
and ongoing cases at various stages of litigation from probable cause hearings
to terminations of parental rights. Duties and responsibilities include assisting
with client interviews, conducting research related to issues presented in
deprivation cases, assisting with drafting motions, locating appropriate
services for children and families, and assisting with the overall preparation
and follow up of case files. Interns may also have an opportunity to attend
specialized meetings and case reviews. |
| Qualities: | The Office of the Child Advocate Attorney is seeking interns committed
to public interest work; specifically in the area of child welfare. Interns
must be reliable, organized, and self-directed with the ability to handle
the sensitive issues surrounding child abuse and neglect. Eligible third
year law students may be assigned a small caseload and make court appearances
under the supervision of a child advocate attorney. |

| Job Description: | The Georgia Advocacy Office is the designated Protection and Advocacy
System for the State of Georgia. It is a private, non-profit corporation
that receives federal funding to provide protection and advocacy services
to people with disabilities in the state of Georgia. One of its highest priorities
is the prevention of abuse and neglect of children with disabilities, particularly
children who are institutionalized or vulnerable to institutionalization.
The intern will work with lawyers and advocates on ongoing systemic initiatives
and individual cases involving children with disabilities. |
