Job Description: The intern will work directly with the director of the One Child, One Lawyer Program in the recruitment, training, and supervising of volunteer attorneys who serve as child advocate attorneys for abused and neglected children in Fulton County Juvenile Court. The work will include attendance at hearings, reviewing and summarizing case files, managing the calendar of hearings, and conducting legal research and writing on relevant issues of deprivation law.
Qualities: Demonstrated commitment to children or families facing the challenges of poverty.
Other: The supervising attorney is only available for part-time supervision, so the student must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Job Description: The summer intern will assist the staff of the Barton Clinic with legal research, writing, and advocacy related to the clinic's ongoing public policy activities. The clinic operates as a student legal clinic, accepting students from law schools and graduate schools in fields related to child advocacy. Students in the clinic do not provide direct representation of children but instead focus on research and advocacy projects that affect how Georgia courts and agencies handle child welfare cases.
Qualities: Strong legal research and writing skills; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; previous experience with child welfare systems; rising third year preferred but not required.
Other: This position focuses on policy related to the child welfare system in Georgia. It would not be a good match for students seeking direct client contact or a court-based position.

Job Description: Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia is interested in utilizing the skills of a legal intern to research laws and legal practices in other states that are viewed as successful in reducing risks to Child Advocacy Centers as well as the trauma (during prosecution) to children of alleged sexual abuse and in fostering better prosecution of alleged perpetrators. Research will also include CAC partnerships with educational institutions.

Intern will research best practices models used in the development of successful CACs (e.g. Community Originating, District Attorney-Originating versus Law Enforcement Originating.)

Intern will explore, develop, and document strategies for developing additional CACs and /or expanding services of existing CACs and all legal implications.
Qualities: Intern will have general knowledge of the mission and function of children's advocacy centers, general knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of multidisciplinary teams, excellent research and writing skills, excellent phone and communication skills, the ability to interact with and collect information from a host of professionals from varying disciplines, and the ability to work independently.
Other: Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia, Inc. is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1992 whose mission  is to promote, assist, and support the development, growth, and continuation of children's advocacy centers in the state of Georgia. CACGA's vision is that when abuse is reported, every child in Georgia will have access to the services provided by a children's advocacy center. In order to make our vision become a reality, CACGA needs to develop a growth plan to ensure comprehensive and quality CAC services in all judicial circuits in Georgia.

Job Description: The intern will research court files, take case notes at hearings, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings at the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), attend Citizen Review Panel meetings, consult with DFCS staff, prepare case summaries, support CASA volunteers with report writing, edit the CASA newsletter, assist the CASA staff as needed and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualities: The student must have a genuine interest in the advocacy of deprived children. Students preparing to enter into the field of child advocacy would benefit from this internship.

Job Description: Interns will be assisting with case investigation by accompanying investigators and attorneys on field interviews of child clients and other relevant witnesses; preparing comprehensive child advocate reports for submissions into the court record; writing factual summaries of pending court cases; interacting with juvenile court personnel, social workers, therapists, educators, and other service providers; observing deprivation proceedings at DeKalb County Juvenile Court; researching topics pertaining to an active case or developing issue in child advocacy law.
Qualities: Ideal summer interns should be critical thinkers who are detail-oriented and creative problem solvers. Previous experience working with children in some capacity is preferred but not required.
Other: The DCCAC is a fast-paced, non-traditional legal office in which no two days are likely to be the same. Ideal summer interns should be flexible and adaptable to an evolving work environment.

Job Description: Interns will directly assist child advocate attorneys in preparing for all stages of litigation and follow-up on behalf of children who are alleged to be abused and /or neglected. Interns will be involved with new and ongoing cases at various stages of litigation from probable cause hearings to terminations of parental rights. Duties and responsibilities include assisting with client interviews, conducting research related to issues presented in deprivation cases, assisting with drafting motions, locating appropriate services for children and families, and assisting with the overall preparation and follow up of case files. Interns may also have an opportunity to attend specialized meetings and case reviews.
Qualities: The Office of the Child Advocate Attorney is seeking interns committed to public interest work; specifically in the area of child welfare. Interns must be reliable, organized, and self-directed with the ability to handle the sensitive issues surrounding child abuse and neglect. Eligible third year law students may be assigned a small caseload and make court appearances under the supervision of a child advocate attorney.
Other: Interns will be directly involved with all aspects of the work of a child advocate attorney, much of which involves court appearances. The office is a high-volume, fast-paced environment where interns can expect to obtain valuable knowledge and practical application of child welfare laws.

Job Description: The Georgia Advocacy Office is the designated Protection and Advocacy System for the State of Georgia. It is a private, non-profit corporation that receives federal funding to provide protection and advocacy services to people with disabilities in the state of Georgia. One of its highest priorities is the prevention of abuse and neglect of children with disabilities, particularly children who are institutionalized or vulnerable to institutionalization. The intern will work with lawyers and advocates on ongoing systemic initiatives and individual cases involving children with disabilities.
Qualities: A sense of identification with people with disabilities, some basic knowledge of federal civil rights law, and a willingness to have your assumptions and beliefs challenged.
