Job Description: Assist in monthly follow-up with volunteers assigned CASA cases by the court by personal interview with CASA volunteers; document CASA volunteer activities and case contacts; perform related agency documentation; assist Advocacy coordinator in determining assignments of new CASA cases to volunteers; facilitate application process for new volunteers and contribute input related to CASA volunteer applicant screening interviews; assist in delivery of pre-service volunteer training as needed.
Qualities: Rudimentary knowledge of Georgia child welfare system/principal as well as basic familiarity with juvenie justice system; component/roles; basic understanding of family systems; good listening, verbal and written skills; must pass criminal background check (independent of Emory University's background check).

Job Description: Intern will accompany attorney to Court and assist with hearing preparation, including talking to Case Managers and witnesses. Intern will have opportunity to draft pleadings and court orders, as well as work on research projects. If intern is a rising 3L, the intern will be allowed to actively participate in hearings. Work and responsibilities are tailored to the needs of the office and in conjunction with experience that intern both has and wishes to gain.
Qualities: Willing to work with all levels of experience. Wish to have an intern who is ready and willing to learn and can adjust to the unpredictability of juvenile court.
Other: There is no specific office space. When not in Court, the intern can work from his/her home. Will provide any office supplies needed, and if necessary, can provide a laptop for the intern.

Job Description: Serve as guardian ad litem for limited number of children; conduct investigations as a part of guardian ad litem role; perform statistical research on a project related to deprivation/TPR cases; participate in ILP reviews; work with SAAG, CASA, defense attorney, DFCS to learn their roles.
Qualities: Intern will have completed one year of law school; experience volunteering with church or other non-profits working with children.
Other: Housing in Savannah can be an issue--be prepared to locate adequate housing. You must have your own transportation.

Job Description: Student will work with the Judge and the Court's Attorney Guardian ad Litem assisting in legal research, developing a child placement protocol between the attorney GAL and local agencies, and assisting the Attorney GAL in representing children in court.
Qualities: Self-starter, motivation to learn, needs little supervision, will create own opportunities to help the organization and enhance the experience.
Other: Court is a mid-sized court allowing for an opportunity to experience all aspects of Juvenile Law without getting lost. Court has full-time Attorney Guardian ad Litem who will assist the judge in supervision and sharing experience.

Other: Newton County Juvenile Court is located in Covington, GA. Our court has multiple grant funded programs that serve the youth of our county. We are a new court in the Court Improvement Initiative, and the intern selected to serve our court will be heavily involved in the process of implementing new procedures to improve deprivation issues in relation to the court and various agencies.

Other: Two potential placement locations (Macon or Atlanta), some travel between offices required (max 1x/week; carpooling w/ other staff available), opportunity for exposure to law, policy and practice/casework but limited (if any) direct client representation in court.
